Rundetårn

Rundetårn

Overview

Rundetårn rises above Købmagergade in the historic centre of København. Built in the seventeenth century, it combines a distinctive spiral ramp with an elevated view over the surrounding roofs.

Why Go

The ascent is part of the experience: a broad, curving passage replaces most of the staircase normally associated with a tower. At the top, the city becomes easier to understand as a pattern of roofs, spires and streets. The building also has an astronomical history and a Library Hall used for exhibitions and events.

Best Time To Visit

Choose clear weather for the skyline. Indoor spaces remain interesting on a grey day, but the climb is less rewarding if views are your main aim. Check the programme if an exhibition or observing evening is the reason for your visit.

Getting Around And Practical Notes

Rundetårn is an easy stop on a walk through Indre By. The ramp is followed by stairs to the viewing platform, and there is no lift. The route is therefore not step-free, despite its broad lower passage.

Cautions And Tradeoffs

The narrow final section can slow the flow of visitors. Allow a little flexibility if combining the tower with a timed museum ticket. Large luggage is unsuitable for this visit.
